Feb 10What’s new?
New year, new blog, I thought.
My last entry’s been ages ago. I’m just not much of a blogger type but I’ll try and update this more frequently now.
Most recent and flattering news is that I’ve been interviewed by Taiwanese dpi Magazine in December. I was first invited to join their European Special Issue but then actually made it into their monthly magazine, which means a total of I think eight or nine questions instead of three. The interview is scheduled to be published in March and I’m very excited for it! I’ll make sure to post a scan of my article as soon as I receive my copy and let you know how and where to order it.
I should also be in a couple of online magazines within the next weeks. I’ll post links to them here once they’re out.
I’m currently working on a batch of new paitings that have lake and forest spirits in them. Oil paint still seems so new to me compared to how easily I handle ink and watercolour, yet despite my impatience during the learning process and the common belief that acrylics are way easier to use, I came to find that oils are a most wonderful medium that I love to work with. My results certainly are light years away from where I want them to be but I can see the progress, and I am highly motivated to transfer my characters to another, more realistic dimension.
Here’s my latest sketch of a rather large piece. The size is intimidating to me after many years of small ink drawings but I’m sure I can manage it. The boy’s a bit more boyish this time, as I’m trying to fight the gender confusion of my other boys that apparently look like girls.
